Red Sheep (Ovis orientalis gmelini x Ovis vignei arkal)
The Red Sheep is a naturally occuring cross between the Armenian Mouflon (Ovis orientalis gmelini) and the Transcaspian Urial (Ovis vignei arkal) in the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran . Because the Red Sheep is a cross, it exhibits characteristics of both parental species. Horn configuration is variable. Gestation period is 5 months with 1 to 2 young born (twins common).
